A licensed towboat operator provides a beneficial service for canoeists to all water based access points, whether their trip is entering the BWCA or the Quetico Park.
It is a neccessity with any Jasper Creek guiding service; and this service is included in Jasper Creek's completely outfitted & guided trip packages.
Why Use a Tow Boat?
A tow boat saves you and your group alot of paddling time the first day out; therefore you reach camp faster and can begin fishing and enjoying your wilderness vacation sooner. Likewise you and your group get to enjoy that same vacation longer and get more fishing time because a pre-arranged pick up with a tow service gets you out of the wilderness more efficiently- so why not use it? No matter which Ely area outfitter you choose to set up your trip, consider getting a tow boat service to your select wilderness entry point.
For example, from Moose Lake to Prairie Portage, it takes an average party nearly three hours to paddle, and that's during 'good' weather. You would pay a tow boat fee that would only average $8.00 plus change per hour (approx. average rate) of your time paddling but you'd get there in twenty minutes with that service. If you really enjoy the paddling, no problem with that three hours- that's why it is a canoe trip. But,- if your outfitter or guide is selling you a trip to a particular lake for the beauty, the quality fishing, or to maximize your vacation time,- go ahead and pay for the tow service and get there fast! It is well worth it!
