Cast & Cruise

This canoe trip was originally designed to meet  the Fly Fisherman's needs, but now  the Cast & Cruise is a  favorite with many of Jasper Creek's clients. This trip option allows you maximum time on the water; right where you want to be, and need to be; to enjoy the superb Smallmouth Bass angling found here in the BWCA/ Quetico country!

The itinerary- We'll leave our base either  via Jasper Creek's reliable towboat service or with a vehicle shuttle and get dropped off miles away at a select wilderness entry point. Depending on your pre-determined trip plans, we'll portage and paddle to a beautiful campsite and then head out fishing as soon as a tight camp is set. A hearty meal, expertly prepared over an open campfire, awaits you and the gang as the sun begins its daily slide to the west. Two favorite pastimes in the evening are to cast top water lures against shadowy shorelines anticipating the furious strike of a smallmouth bass; or reminiscing the day's events over a crackling fire while overlooking a picture perfect wilderness view as it fades into the dusk. The next morning finds us all up early. A pot of coffee will be perking its two note melody over a smoky spruce campfire as we break camp. A quick, but hearty breakfast is prepared and eaten as anticipation builds for the day's angling action. The loaded canoes are soon boarded and the fun begins! We'll fish down the timbered shorelines, we cast the boulder fields, we jig and rig hidden reefs, we slip bobber weed lines, we troll over deep holes, and we proceed to catch FISH! By early afternoon, there will be the feeling of a little weariness and the need to stretch our backs. We  notice our hunger pangs lasting through the excitement of lippin' yet another red-eyed smallie. It is time for our lunch break  - that traditional Northwoods Shorelunch!  We often choose to pitch the evening camp right there during lunch break. Sometimes we go in search of more fishing action and pitch our camp further down the lake at yet another picture perfect campsite. It's your trip and we go at a pace that is comfortable for everyone.

The best time to reserve a "Cast & Cruise" Trip option is from mid May through the early part of July. The basic trip is reserved for six days (five nights) with superb fishing action, beautiful scenery, great tasting food, and comfortable camps. Typically, we'll exit at another predetermined point by mid afternoon on the sixth day (depending on trip length). We typically have a "lay over day" within those six days. Again, this depends on your trip itinerary. At trip's end, you'll notice that your thumb is sand papered from lippin' smallies as that last  Duluth pack drops from your shoulders onto the dock back at Jasper Creek's landing. That final  pack is very important, it is the one full of the countless memories that will return home with you, and those memories will keep you dreaming of the Quetico-Superior!
