Scenic Travel Trips

If you and/or a party have an itch to see some beautiful and wild country, then this is the trip to reserve! Both early and late season canoe country trips offer great sightseeing. The first trip is a Northwoods Spring and the second is during a Northwoods Autumn when the forest is a riot of reds, yellows and oranges. Both of these periods are perfect times to enjoy a "Scenic Trip" and view wildlife.

If you are a bird watcher, this is an excellent trip to take in the spring, prior to Memorial Day. The Quetico-Superior Wilderness is a haven for migrating songbirds. The same for autumn trips, especially after mid-September. In the fall, many species of songbirds migrate back through the Boundary Waters. Why? Massive Lake Superior, lying south of here, is a formidable obstacle for these diminutive birds. They'll reside awhile and feed heavily on ripened berries and seeds. Large game animals, such as deer, bear, and moose are also easily seen due to the lack of 'leafed out' or dense under story. Autumn finds the moose rutting, and many times on late fall lake trout ventures, I've been entertained by these massive animals slumbering along the shorelines and uttering their drawn out mournful grunts; searching for their mates.

  Depending on the group's itinerary, a circle trip is usually planned which allows you and your party to visit 'new' waters thus exploring seldom visited lakes and portages found here in the vast lake country.

Fishing these remote gems is fantastic since the resident fish in many of these waters have never seen an artificial lure. Lake trout angling is a sure bet during both of these periods. Any moving water or 'currents' encountered along the way are sure to have hungry walleyes and smallmouth bass lurking below, eager to strike and keep your rods dancing.  

Each afternoon, a comfortable camp is set-up overlooking a post card perfect scene. There will be plenty of late afternoon 'camp time' to relax, read a book, go for a swim, or try your hand at bringing some fish to the net, and maybe even the campfire skillet. These trips are completely outfitted with quality equipment and a hearty food pack.
